Deputy of the Supreme Ukrainian Parliament (Rada) Aleksey Goncharenko submitted to the Ukrainian parliament a draft resolution on the recognition of the genocide of the Circassian (Adyghe) people during the Caucasian War of 1763-1864, the website kavkazr.com reports.
In his Facebook account, Goncharenko stated that the Caucasian war led to the death or expulsion of 90% of the Circassians, and their lands were settled by representatives of other peoples. “By recognizing the forced eviction and extermination of this people as genocide, we will be able to honor their memory,” the deputy said.
Recall that three parliaments recognized the genocide of the Circassians, the parliament of Georgia in 2011, the parliament of Adygea in 1996 and the parliament of Kabardino-Balkaria in 1992.
